Medicare information
Medicare helps with the cost of health care and medicine and provides several services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia. Health professionals can access information for their clients and claim the rebates relevant to their professions.
Medicare services include:
- online submission of forms to Medicare
- online education on the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) and Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) and education resources relevant to different professions
- claiming under the MBS if services are bulk billing
- Indigenous Access Program for health professionals
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Access Line
- Voluntary Indigenous Identifier
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health education for health professionals – a range of guides are available to support health professionals providing support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, these include:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health assessments and follow-up services
- Chronic disease management services – supporting Indigenous health
- Closing the Gap – PBS Co-payment Measure – supporting Indigenous health
- Mental health services – supporting Indigenous health.
