Higher degree/Postdoctoral research opportunity for Aboriginal students

 

Overview

The Telethon Kids Institute is seeking expressions of interest from potential Aboriginal research candidates motivated to undertake research at the Masters, Doctoral or Postdoctoral level. The successful candidate will be invited to join the Alcohol and Pregnancy and FASD Research Group to undertake a key role in a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) funded research investigation to be conducted within Banksia Hill Detention Centre in Perth, Western Australia (WA).

The aim of the study is to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of two interventions to improve the identification and management of youth with FASD in the justice system. The two interventions are:

This funding opportunity is specific to an Indigenous researcher with skills, or interested in developing skills in qualitative, behavioural or evaluation research. The candidate will work with study investigators and stakeholders to design and conduct the case study evaluation of the study interventions at the Banksia Hill Detention Centre. The candidate will have an active role in the design and implementation of the case study, including conducting the study interviews, collection of other types of data, data analysis and publication preparation and reporting on the case study methods and findings.

This expression of interest can be considered independently or as an opportunity to apply in collaboration for the Healthway Aboriginal research training scholarships.
