Target audience: For those who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, who are already employed in a heath care environment
Course summary: The Certificate III in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care may be delivered in a flexible work-based mode combining on and off-the-job activities for delivery and assessment. Off-the-job delivery and on-the-job delivery is negotiated with the participant and their workplace. Clinical skills are developed and practised in a simulated environment as well as in the workplace clinic. Participants need to be employed in a role utilising clinical skills or with direct client interaction and care, practical placements or job rotations will be required.
Students must complete 12 core and 5 electives to achieve the qualification HLT30113 Certificate III in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care. Some of the core units include:
HLTAHW005 Work in an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander primary health care context
HLTAHW006 Facilitate and advocate for the right and needs of clients and community members
HLTAHW007 Undertake basic health assessments
HLTAHW008 Assist in planning and implementation of basic health care
HLTAHW009 Provide information about social and emotional support.
Other core units and some electives must be undertaken to satisfy the course requirements.
