The Long Walk

Overview

The Long Walk is a charity inspired by Michael Long's 2004 walk from Melbourne, Victoria to Parliament House in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, more than 650 kilometres. The 2017 Long Walk's theme is We walk together and is a free community event.

There will be a flag raising ceremony at the Swanston Street forecourt where Aunty Gail Mabo will be assisting in the permanent flying of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags.

The Master of Ceremonies is Joe Williams, the 2015 Wagga Wagga Citizen of the year and has been an inspiration to many across the country with his work in the community, mental health & suicide prevention sectors.

Entertainment will be provided by Casey Donovan, Jayden Reid and the Soul Singers. The Indigenous Hip Hop Projects will also take over the stage around 2:30pm and there will be arts and crafts for the children as well as sporting and cultural activities.

Michael Long will commence his walk from Federation Square to the annual Dreamtime @ the G match at 4:15pm.
