Dr Bruce Simmons is employed at the Alice Springs Community Dental Clinic, which offers dental services to local residents. He is also an advocate for remote and primary oral health services and is a strong supporter of effective patient-centred care.

Bruce has worked as a clinician and public oral health services manager in the Northern Territory (NT) for nearly 40 years.  After graduating from the University of Adelaide Dental School in 1970, Bruce worked for the Commonwealth Department of Health.  He went on to become the first fulltime District Dental Officer in Central Australia, travelling to over 50 remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, providing dental services and also providing Aboriginal Health Workers with basic and post-basic skills training in oral health. From 2009-2012, Bruce worked at the Alice Springs Correctional Services as a Remote Oral Health Services Consultant, as well as at the NT Oral Health Service in Central Australia as a Dentist Manager. Bruce was also General Manager of the Central Australia Oral Health Services.

Committed to improving the oral health of Australians, Bruce is the National Convenor of the Oral Health Special Interest Group (SIG) of the Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA) and a member of numerous committees, including:

Bruce has also been honoured as a Fellow of the Public Health Association of Australia.
