Joanna Barton is Manager of the Outback Eye Service based in the Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick, New South Wales.

The Outback Eye Service began as a result of the combined vision between Fred Hollows and Joanna and provides an example of how medical disciplines can provide essential outreach services in local communities. The service covers western New South Wales, working out of hospitals in Bourke, Walgett, Lightning Ridge, Brewarrina, Cobar, Wilcannia, Menindee, and working closely with Broken Hill Hospital.

Joanna Barton has lived and worked in the Bourke District for many years as a diabetes educator and ophthalmic nurse and maintains a passion for delivering eye services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in rural and remote communities in New South Wales.
